This is a cool treat sent to us by a dear friend of ours that happened to be rummaging thru their saved papers and lo n’ behold… the winning letter to a Newsday contest where they won 4 tickets to see Pocahontas in Central Park and it’s program. This is already quite special but added onto the excitement before the premiere were displays of fireworks and a live stage show with some of the songs from the movie. Disney flew in their crew to clean up Central Park and even laid down astroturf to keep that magic clean, also the only 70mm prints made for this movie were used for this premiere. Something that temporarily transformed Central Parks Great Lawn into a piece of permanent Disney history. Not having experienced this and hearing the story about how it played out, it makes me wonder why they don’t do these more often. The months and months of preparation it took were most definitely hectic but boy would it be cool to see this.
