DIsney has quite a few shorts that’ll rattle the spine. I give you The Skeleton Dance made in 1929, a piece by Ub Iwerks (Don Iwerks son, co-creator of Oswald & Mickey) containing beautifully haunting melodies by Carl W. Stalling. Everything down to the howling wind, feisty cat hissing fight and xylophone number has an odd but friendly feeling, the best is when they get all scared of the rooster’s wake-up call knowing the fun is done.
One of my favorite shorts and an early testament to the fun side of Disney that still contained a light-hearted macabre dance of the dead. Who’s ready for Halloween?!
